What is a Satoshi test, and how do I complete it?
The Satoshi test is a verification process on OKX platform that involves sending a random amount of cryptocurrency—typically worth 5 USDC—to a target address. This method is instrumental in verifying that users maintain control over their intended withdrawal addresses. There are several criteria to pass the Satoshi test on our platform. They're as below:
The Satoshi test deposit must originate from the correct address intended for verification.
The Satoshi test deposit is made to an OKX-provided verification address.
The Satoshi test deposit amount must match the amount specified by us for the test.
The Satoshi test deposit must be completed within the specified timeframe.
Note: if you made a deposit that's meant for Satoshi test but was unsuccessful in the verification process due to failure in meeting the above criteria, the deposit will be locked and you may unlock it by providing the sender's info. Learn more about it here.
We recommend Digital Signature if it’s available to you. Learn more
You can verify the address by signing a message, without sending crypto or paying a network transaction fee. A Satoshi test requires an on-chain transfer and a network fee.
Before you start: can you send from the exact address?
Your test transfer must come from the exact address OKX asks you to verify. Sending from another address in the same wallet will not pass the test.
This can be difficult with wallets that manage multiple addresses, including some hardware wallets and wallets on UTXO-based networks such as Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE).
Your wallet may use a different address to fund the transfer, even if it contains the address you want to verify.
How do I complete a Satoshi test?
Open the verification request for your deposit or withdrawal and select Satoshi Test. Then, select the token you will be using for verification.
Check the asset, network, address being verified, OKX verification address, exact amount and time limit shown on your screen.
Send the exact requested amount from the address being verified to the OKX verification address before the time limit expires.
Return to OKX to check the result and complete any remaining steps.
Are there fees, and what happens to the test amount?
A Satoshi test is an on-chain transfer, so you pay the network transaction fee. The test deposit you made is then credited to your OKX funding account; the network fee is not returned.
Why did my Satoshi test fail?
Check whether the transfer used the correct source address, asset, destination address and exact amount, and whether it was completed before the deadline.
If your wallet sent from a different address, repeating the test without changing how your wallet selects the sending address may fail again. Use Digital Signature if it’s offered.
If the unsuccessful test transfer becomes a locked deposit, open that deposit and complete its information request. See Why is my crypto deposit locked, and how do I unlock it? Unlocking the deposit and passing the wallet verification are separate steps.
Will I need to verify the address again?
Addresses verified under the current rule remain verified for one year. If your address was verified earlier, follow the validity shown in your account. You may also be asked to verify again if you use a different address.
