General eligibility for registration

Before you begin registration, please be aware:

  • Our services are offered by different entities across global jurisdictions. Your country of residence, local laws, and the legal entity operating in that region may affect whether and how you can use our platform.

  • A user’s citizenship alone is not necessarily disqualifying — what matters most is where you are currently residing and which regulatory rules apply in that location.

  • Even if we support your country of residence, certain features (trading pairs, services, withdrawal options) may be restricted depending on local regulations.

Example use case:
A user might be a citizen of Country A but living in Country B. What determines their eligibility to use our platform is Country B (residence) and whether we support operations under the legal entity for that jurisdiction — not just their citizenship status.

How do I sign up using a referral code?

You can sign up using either:

  • a referral link shared by a friend, or

  • a referral code entered during registration.

By signing up via referral, you’ll automatically participate in new-user promotional events. After completing the required tasks, you may receive bonus rewards, subject to campaign rules.

Note:

  • Referral relationships are confirmed only through referral codes.

  • Make sure the referral code is entered correctly during sign-up.

What should I take note of when signing up with a mobile phone number?

  • Make sure the phone number you bind is one you actively use.

  • You’ll still be required to bind an email address.

  • All important notifications and verification messages will be sent to your email.

If you have already signed up but cannot use your phone number or want to change to a new phone number, please refer to: How do I change my phone number?

What should I take note of when signing up with an email address?

  • You can use a personal email address (such as Outlook, QQ Mail, 163 Mail, or similar).

  • Make sure the email is entered correctly and can receive messages normally.

  • Your email is required for system notifications, identity verification, and password recovery.

Note:

  • Each phone number and email address can be used to register only one OKX account.

  • Both a phone number and an email address must be bound during registration.

What should I do if I can't sign up?

If you're unable to sign up, please check the following:

Confirm your information

Make sure your phone number, email address, and verification codes are entered correctly.

Check your network connection

Try switching networks (Wi-Fi or mobile data) and ensure you’re in an area with a stable connection.

If a referral link doesn’t open, you can:

  • ask your friend to share a QR code, or

  • sign up directly in the app and manually enter the referral code.

Check whether your information has already been used

If the system indicates that your phone number or email is already registered:

  • Try logging in using password recovery, or

  • Contact customer support if you believe the account wasn't created by you.

Note: according to platform rules, one identity document can only be linked to one OKX account. Once identity verification is completed, it can’t be changed or canceled.

What if I want to partner or collaborate with OKX?

If you're interested in partnering or collaborating with OKX, please send your proposal to communityegc@okx.com. Our team will review your enquiry and contact you via email.

OKX Account Registration FAQ

1. Can I have both an individual account and a corporate account?

Yes. You can apply separately for one individual account and one corporate or institutional account. Register your individual account with your own personal information, and register a corporate or institutional account in the name of a genuine company or other legal entity. You need to register and verify each account separately through the appropriate process.

2. I already have an individual account. Can I convert it to a corporate account?

Individual and corporate or institutional accounts are different account types, and generally can't be converted into one another. If you need an account for a company or another legal entity, submit a separate application through the corporate or institutional account registration portal.

3. Which country should I select when registering a company?

Enter information that accurately reflects the company's circumstances:

  • Legal registration country: the country shown on the company's registration certificate

  • Main operating country: the country where the company conducts most of its actual business activities

  • Remote operation: if the company primarily operates remotely, follow the instructions on the page and enter the country where its principal manager, primary decision-maker, or CEO ordinarily resides

Note: incorrect information can place your account under the wrong service entity and affect your corporate verification.

4. For "Country/Region", should I select my nationality or my country of residence?

Select the country or region where you currently and ordinarily reside. This generally isn't your nationality, your passport-issued country, or a temporary travel destination, unless that country or region is also where you ordinarily reside.

5. Which email address should I use to register?

Use a personal or business email address that you control and can access over the long term. We may use this address for account notifications, verification, requests for additional information, password resets, and account recovery. Don't use another person's email address, a temporary email address, or an address you might lose access to.

6. Why is my country or region missing from the registration list?

If your country or region doesn't appear on the registration page, the registration process doesn't support selecting that location. Follow the options shown on the page and the applicable terms of service. Don't select a country or region that doesn't match your current residence to get around an unavailable option.

7. I live in one country but hold another country's passport or permanent residence permit. Can I register and trade?

When you register, select the country or region where you currently and ordinarily reside. Don't base your selection only on your nationality, passport-issuing country, permanent residence permit, or temporary travel destination.

Once you select the correct country or region, the registration or identity verification page shows the identity document types and requirements that apply to you. If your current country or region of residence isn't available on the page, the registration process doesn't support that location.

Note: successful registration or identity verification doesn't guarantee access to every trading product. Your account shows the services available to you.

8. I'm under 18. Can an exception be made for me?

No. You must be at least 18 years old, or meet the minimum legal age shown on the registration page. Parental or guardian consent, financial circumstances, and other personal reasons can't be used to make an exception. Don't use a parent's, guardian's, or another person's identity information to register.

9. Is there a maximum age for registration?

Being older than the applicable minimum age isn't normal, by itself, a reason that you can't register. You still need to complete identity verification and any other applicable checks. Your eligibility to use specific services is determined by the options and information shown on the registration page and in your account.

10. If registration is supported, does that mean I can use every product?

No. The trading products, payment methods, deposit and withdrawal options, and derivatives services available to you can vary based on:

  • Your account's service entity

  • Your country or region of residence

  • Your account type

  • Applicable local requirements

  • Whether you've completed identity verification and other applicable checks

Refer to the features shown in your account.

11. Do I need a mobile phone number to register?

Whether a mobile phone number is required depends on the registration options shown on the page. If a number is required, use a genuine number that you control over the long term and that can receive SMS messages. Don't use a false or temporary number, or another person's number.

12. Why is my mobile phone number format invalid?

Check the following:

  • You selected the correct country or region code

  • You didn't enter the country code twice

  • The number doesn't contain unnecessary spaces

  • You didn't include a leading zero by mistake

  • The number follows the local mobile number format

If you've already selected a country code on the page, you generally don't need to enter the same code again in the phone number field.

13. Should I open an individual account or a corporate account?

Open an individual account if you own and use the account personally, using your own email address, mobile phone number, and identity information.

Open a corporate or institutional account if the account represents a company, institution, fund, trust, or another legal entity. Apply through the corporate or institutional registration and verification portal, together with the required entity documents.
