Over S&P 500 ETF

SPY is de best erkende en oudste in de VS genoteerde ETF en staat doorgaans bovenaan de ranglijst voor grootste AUM en het grootste handelsvolume. Het fonds volgt de enorm populaire Amerikaanse index, de S&P 500. Weinigen realiseren zich dat het indexcomité van S&P 500 effecten kiest om de Amerikaanse large-cap markt te vertegenwoordigen - niet per se de 500 grootste qua marktkapitalisatie, wat kan leiden tot het weglaten van enkele namen. Toch biedt de index uitstekende blootstelling aan de Amerikaanse large-cap markt. Het is belangrijk op te merken dat SPY een unit investment trust is, een oudere maar volledig levensvatbare structuur. Als UIT moet SPY zijn index volledig repliceren (waarschijnlijk zou het dat toch doen) en het kleine risico en de beloning van effectenlening laten varen. Het kan ook geen portefeuilledividenden herinvesteren tussen uitkeringen, de resulterende kasdruk zal de prestaties in stijgende markten enigszins schaden en helpen bij neerwaartse trends. SPY is een gewild vanille-handelsinstrument.
